Ali Mohammad (played by Fereydoun Farokhzad), then, is a man in his forties, divorced, who has sold all his goods in order to move to Austria. Here, however, things are not so simple, especially if one is not a political refugee and cannot therefore obtain a long-term residence permit. Little use, therefore, is made of his saying ‘I love Vienna’ – hence the title of the film – in response to anyone who asks him why he wants to stay in Austria. The man, however, during his stay, resides at the Hotel Praterstern, where many other foreigners like him have been living for some time.
