The explosion took place at around 9 p.m. local time at a coal mine in Tabas, a city located about 540 kilometers southeast of the capital. The explosion was so powerful that it trapped miners underground, making rescue efforts difficult. Emergency services, including personnel from the Iranian Red Crescent Society, responded swiftly to the crisis. However, despite their best efforts, the death toll continued to rise as more bodies were pulled from the rubble.

By the time officials provided updated figures, 51 lives had been lost, and 20 people were reported injured. The Director General of Crisis Management for South Khorasan Province played a critical role in managing the situation and relaying information to the public.
