Causes of Traffic Accidents
The study conducted by Tehran’s traffic police in 1974 identified several key factors contributing to the high rate of traffic accidents:
- Driver Behavior:
A significant portion of accidents was attributed to reckless driving and negligence on the part of drivers. Common behaviors included speeding, failure to yield the right of way, and tailgating. Many drivers were either unaware of traffic laws or chose to disregard them, leading to chaotic and dangerous conditions on the roads. - Traffic Violations:
Among the most frequent offenses were running red lights, illegal U-turns, and overtaking other vehicles in unsafe conditions. These violations not only increased the likelihood of collisions but also created confusion for other road users.
