Coca-Cola Collaboration and Controversies

Khushah’s long-standing association with Coca-Cola has been a defining aspect of its history. Even after the revolution, the company maintained indirect ties with Coca-Cola, leveraging the expertise gained during their initial partnership. This relationship, however, has not been without controversy.

The 1984 Coca-Cola Import Ban

When the Iranian government banned the import of Coca-Cola extract in 1984, Khushah had to devise alternative strategies to sustain its business. The company’s innovative approach to recreating the Coca-Cola formula locally not only demonstrated resilience but also ensured that Iranian consumers continued to enjoy a familiar taste.

The 2008-2009 Israel-Gaza Conflict and Its Impact

During the Israel-Gaza conflict in 2008-2009, the Iranian Parliament introduced a plan to ban products associated with companies that had significant Israeli shareholders. This plan, known as the “Banking of Zionist Goods,” aimed to restrict the activities of international corporations perceived to have ties to Israel.

Khushah found itself under scrutiny due to its historical association with Coca-Cola. The Ministry of Industries, under the leadership of a special representative of then-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, issued a directive for Khushah to clarify its relationship with the Coca-Cola Company. Despite this, Khushah successfully demonstrated that it had no ties to Israel or Israeli-owned companies. According to a report by Fars News Agency, Khushah’s operations were entirely independent of any foreign influences, allowing it to continue its business without restrictions.
