Iraj Mesdaghi, political activist and former political prisoner

Advocacy Pact and Women’s Rights Movement

On March 22, 2012, Mosadaghi and 82 other activists signed the Advocacy Pact to promote solidarity in the Women, Life, Freedom Movement. The signatories pledged to uphold principles such as the rejection of violence and the pursuit of justice and truth. The group committed itself to international human rights conventions and covenants as the foundation for Iran’s future.

Role in the Arrest and Trial of Hamid Nouri

One of Mosadaghi’s most significant contributions to justice was his involvement in the arrest and trial of Hamid Nouri, a former Iranian official accused of participating in the 1988 mass executions. Mosadaghi played a crucial role in Nouri’s capture and prosecution:

  1. He obtained early intelligence about Nouri’s travel plans and provided this information to European judicial authorities.
  2. He compiled evidence and documented Nouri’s role in the executions.
  3. His testimonies were pivotal in securing an indictment against Nouri.

Mosadaghi was one of the key witnesses in the trial, having previously documented Nouri’s involvement in his book Neither Life, Nor Death, a collection of memoirs and reports about Iran’s prison system in the 1980s.
