Unseen images from Aminabad Mental Hospital

The head of the first ward is busy talking when another group of patients who have just returned from the rehabilitation workshop run towards him. Sofi asks the patients if they had a good time, and the patients answer: “Yes.”

Then everyone reports together that one of the patients has smoked a cigarette and points to him sitting in the ward yard. The head of the first ward invites them to relax with a smile. Referring to the psychiatrist’s presence in the ward, Sofi says: “In addition to the rehabilitation workshop, these patients also go to the cinema and the sports hall and smoke, although smoking is prohibited inside the ward.”

Regarding why some patients wear blue and others wear pink, he adds: “These patients have to wear pink, and blue is for men, but sometimes they get stubborn and wear blue.”

“I Love This Place”

A patient interrupts the head of the ward in Campus One and constantly apologizes. The patient says: “I apologize, I didn’t understand. Now I appreciate this place, I love it. They used to cut my hair, but here they are afraid of the nurses.”

The head of the ward in Campus One explains his words: “Where he was before, other patients used to harass him, but here he is happy.”

I go from Campus One to another building called “Aban ward”; this ward has recently been renovated, and when patients enter, they experience an improved and more comfortable environment.

Aminabad Psychiatric Hospital continues its mission of mental health care, bridging the gap between past misconceptions and modern psychiatric treatments. Through rehabilitation efforts, patient support programs, and improved facilities, it remains a beacon of hope for those who seek solace and healing within its walls.
