The Launch of Iran’s First Television Station

Following months of technical preparation and construction, Iran’s first television transmitter officially began broadcasting on Friday, October 1, 1959.

The inaugural ceremony commenced at exactly 5:00 p.m., as previously announced. Considerable public anticipation surrounded the event, as television represented an entirely new form of communication for most Iranians.

The opening broadcast featured a carefully planned sequence of ceremonial and entertainment programs designed to introduce viewers to the capabilities of the new medium.
