The surgery was originally scheduled to take place in China using falsified medical records, but after the surgical team was exposed, she was transferred to Laos. The outcome was disastrous. Just two weeks after the operation, she developed a severe infection in her leg and was forced to stop the height-lengthening process after gaining only 3 centimeters.
She now takes painkillers every day and says that even the slightest movement feels as though a knife is being driven into her bones. Another patient, who underwent the surgery in Turkey five years ago, gained 11 centimeters in height but continues to suffer from chronic bone infections, leg deformities, and permanent walking difficulties. Looking back, the patient says they would never have chosen to undergo the procedure if given the chance again.
