The first nationwide celebration of Iranian culture and art

Cinema programs further expanded the festival’s cultural scope. Documentary films highlighting regional customs, historical sites, traditional ceremonies, and everyday life introduced audiences to aspects of Iranian society that were often unfamiliar even within the country itself.

National Participation

One of the defining characteristics of the Culture and Arts Festival was its nationwide reach. Although major events were organized in Tehran, particularly at venues such as Rudaki Hall, the festival extended far beyond the capital. Numerous provincial cities hosted concerts, exhibitions, theatrical performances, educational programs, and cultural gatherings that reflected local artistic traditions.

The festival’s tenth edition, held in November 1977, demonstrated this nationwide participation on a particularly large scale. Cultural institutions across Iran collaborated in organizing performances that attracted artists and audiences from many different provinces. This decentralized approach reinforced the festival’s mission of presenting culture as a shared national resource rather than an activity confined to major urban centers.
