For Ghiaei, modern architecture offered an appropriate language for this changing society. Instead of simply reproducing historical forms, he explored the possibilities of reinforced concrete, glass, geometric compositions, clean surfaces, and functional planning. His buildings reflected the belief that architecture could embody the modern identity of a rapidly developing country.
One of the major characteristics of Ghiaei’s professional career was the breadth of his work. He did not restrict himself to a particular building type. His projects included cinemas and hotels, railway stations and hospitals, residences and financial institutions, as well as major government and royal projects. This variety allowed him to experiment with different scales and architectural problems.
His work also placed him in contact with many of the important political, economic, and cultural institutions of the period. As a result, architecture for Ghiaei was not simply an artistic profession. It was also closely connected to the modernization programs of the Iranian state and the expanding private sector.
Modernism and the International Style
Ghiaei’s architecture can generally be described as modernist. A strong influence of the International Style can be identified in many of his projects. This approach emphasized functional organization, geometric clarity, simplified forms, and the reduction or elimination of traditional ornamental elements.
