These forces fought only for their rights and booty; the main purpose of this entertainment was that the battle could not reach a definite result but to obtain as much booty as possible. The battles were fought along the lines of the Illyrian raids; the military forces were neither able to sustain a long-term attack nor inclined to continue this work or stand against the enemy.
