Kamran Adl’s interest in photography emerged during childhood. According to his own recollections, he took his first photograph at the age of twelve while traveling with his family by train.
The photograph was taken at the railway station in Qom, using a camera purchased for him by his father.
His father’s decision to buy the camera reflected an awareness of the young Kamran’s enthusiasm for photography. What began as a childhood interest gradually developed into a lifelong professional commitment.
The significance of this first photograph lies not necessarily in its technical or artistic qualities, but in its place within Adl’s personal history. It marked the beginning of an enduring engagement with the photographic image.
The railway station itself also provides a meaningful setting for this early experience. Railway stations are spaces associated with movement, transition, encounters, and changing social environments. For a young photographer, such a location offered opportunities to observe everyday life through the camera.
Decades later, this first photograph acquired additional historical and emotional significance when it was included in an exhibition at Tehran’s Etemad Gallery.
