Whereas before both the classical female singer and the vulgar cabaret singer appealed mainly to men, Googoosh appealed also to the growing and increasingly educated female audiences. She appealed most to the second-generation be-hejab (without veil) women who had at least a high school education and were entering the work force and public life in increasing numbers.
