Henry Dalal, photographer of the royal family

Photographing the nomads and nature of Homeland was exciting for me until the revolution in 1979, when our family came to London.I was feeling depressed, not knowing what to do with my life. One morning at dawn, I heard the clip-clopping sound of horses in the street outside. I jumped out of bed and saw the Household Cavalry on their morning exercise. That image sparked me to redirect my life, and I always get emotional telling the story. But it wasn’t until moving back to England from Colorado in 1994 that I was somehow invited to the Hyde Park barracks in Knightsbridge as a civilian rider.
