Chinese President visited North Korea after 7 years

One of the most notable aspects of Xi’s remarks was what he did not say. During previous interactions with North Korean leaders, Chinese officials often emphasized support for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. This position aligned with international efforts to limit North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and was a key component of China’s official policy.

During the recent visit, however, references to denuclearization appeared to be absent from publicly released statements. This omission attracted considerable attention among analysts and observers.

The absence of denuclearization language may indicate a shift in China’s assessment of the situation. After years of diplomatic efforts, sanctions, and negotiations, North Korea has continued to advance its nuclear weapons program. It has conducted multiple nuclear tests, developed increasingly sophisticated missile systems, and formally incorporated its nuclear weapons policy into its constitution.
