During this period, air force underwent a major transformation. The Imperial Air Force moved from being a relatively small organization into a much larger and more technologically sophisticated force. Acquired advanced American aircraft, including the F-4 Phantom II, F-5 Freedom Fighter/Tiger II, and eventually the F-14 Tomcat. The acquisition of the F-14 was particularly significant because became the only country other than the United States to operate the aircraft before the 1979 Revolution.
Jahanbani was one of the senior officers associated with this period of modernization. His responsibilities included planning, organization, training, and the development of the Air Force’s operational capabilities. He ultimately became Deputy Commander of the Imperial Air Force, one of the highest positions in the organization. His supporters regarded him as one of the key figures responsible for establishing a highly professional aviation culture.
