The opposition between Minoo and her father creates a second dimension to the romantic plot. Reza is not merely fighting for Minoo; Minoo herself must find a way to resist a decision that has been made for her. Her position makes the story a question of personal choice as well as romantic love.
Khan Daei and the Possibility of Reconciliation
Another important character is Khan Daei, the maternal uncle. Unlike Khan Baba, he approves of the union between Reza and Minoo. His support introduces an alternative form of family authority.
Khan Daei is particularly important because he does not simply sympathize with Reza in private. He becomes an active participant in encouraging the relationship. His position suggests that traditional family structures are not necessarily monolithic. Different members of the older generation can interpret duty, marriage, and family honor differently.
His support also gives Reza hope. Without Khan Daei, Reza’s efforts might appear almost impossible because Khan Baba has already selected another husband for Minoo. Khan Daei effectively becomes a mediator between individual desire and family authority.
The presence of an approving uncle is narratively useful because he helps create a path toward reconciliation. Rather than forcing the story into a tragic conclusion, the film gradually moves toward the possibility that the family can change its position.
