Homeland from the perspective of the international fashion world

Fashion shows served several purposes. They displayed garments to potential customers, introduced new silhouettes, promoted designers and retailers, and created excitement around changing styles. Presentations featuring Iranian and foreign models could demonstrate how international clothing trends might be incorporated into the local market.

For consumers accustomed to purchasing clothing through tailors or conventional shops, fashion exhibitions provided a different way of encountering garments. Rather than seeing individual pieces displayed on hangers, audiences could observe how clothing moved, how different items were combined, and how accessories completed an outfit.

These events also reflected changing attitudes toward women’s public visibility. Fashion modeling placed clothing, bodies, and appearance at the center of a public spectacle. For some audiences, this represented an exciting expression of modern urban life. For others, it challenged established expectations concerning modesty and appropriate public behavior.

The growth of fashion presentations was connected to the expansion of commercial entertainment. Cinemas, restaurants, music performances, exhibitions, and fashionable social gatherings all contributed to the emergence of an urban culture in which appearance played an important role.

Although fashion shows did not reach every segment of Iranian society, they helped establish fashion as a recognizable cultural and commercial activity. Their significance lay not only in the garments displayed but also in the social spaces they created for the exchange of ideas about modernity, elegance, and personal expression.
