He taught international law, diplomacy, and international organizations at the University of Tehran and participated in scholarly discussions concerning Iranian foreign policy.
His academic activities reflected his interest in understanding international relations through both theoretical analysis and practical diplomatic experience.
Zarif also contributed to scholarly publications, including the Iranian Journal of International Affairs and Iranian Foreign Policy.
His writings addressed subjects such as international security, disarmament, human rights, regional conflicts, and the role of international institutions.
In 2000, Zarif served as chairman of the Asian preparatory meeting for the World Conference against Racism.
He also chaired the United Nations Disarmament Commission, an institution concerned with international efforts to reduce weapons and strengthen global security.
These positions demonstrated his growing influence within international diplomatic organizations.
Between 2010 and 2012, Zarif served as Vice President for International Affairs at Islamic Azad University, one of Iran’s largest higher education institutions.
