The unfortunate fate of Starlight Company

Rokn al-Din Sadat Tehrani (born 1933) is an Iranian businessman, entrepreneur, economist, industrialist, and former university professor whose career reflects an important chapter in Iran’s economic and industrial development during the decades preceding the 1979 Islamic Revolution. He is best known for his contributions to the country’s textile and hosiery industries, his service in Iran’s Ministry of Economy during the 1960s, and his role in expanding the business activities of the prominent Sadat Tehrani family. His career also illustrates the profound changes experienced by many Iranian industrialists after the revolution, when widespread confiscations of private property dramatically altered the country’s economic landscape.

Throughout the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, Sadat Tehrani combined public service, academic work, and private entrepreneurship. As an economist educated in both Iran and the United States, he contributed to government policymaking while simultaneously helping manage and expand one of Iran’s successful industrial family enterprises. Under the management of the Sadat Tehrani family, companies such as Pars Trico and Starlight became recognized manufacturers in Iran’s textile sector and achieved commercial success both domestically and internationally.
