Unseen photos of Takhti’s engagement and marriage

With this action by the regime, Takhti had practically left the wrestling scene and could not pursue his favorite profession or even go to wrestling competitions. Mohammad Beluri considers three important factors: Takhti’s removal from the wrestling scene by the imperial regime, his unemployment and failure to receive his rights and various debts, and the many problems he had with his wife, as the main causes of this national hero’s downfall and ultimately his suicide.

Gholamreza Takhti was summoned to SAVAK several times since 1963. The Shah’s entourage, having failed to bring him closer to the court and the government, increased the pressure on Takhti. In some cases, Takhti was even banned from entering stadiums. After a two-year absence from sports competitions, he participated in the Olympic Games for the fourth time, and for the first time, he did not win a medal in these games. Mirzaei, citing surviving documents, states that the government apparently wanted Takhti to appear in the field without training and physical and mental preparation, and that if he failed, he would lose his popularity among the people. On the other hand, the people also wanted him to participate in world competitions.[40] Takhti participated in the world games again in 1966 and once again returned to Iran empty-handed.
