After returning to Iran, Hassan continued his education in Qom and later Tehran. He studied at schools including 19 Dey and Pars in Qom and Nikan School in Tehran. He eventually completed his schooling at Habib Ibn Mazahir School in Jamaran.
The choice of Habib Ibn Mazahir School was influenced partly by security considerations. Because of the political importance of his family and his grandfather’s position, security was an issue that affected several aspects of his childhood and education.
Hassan spent his middle-school years and part of his high-school education at Nikan School. His education was interrupted when he went to the front during the Iran-Iraq War. In 1987, while he was in his second year of high school, he went to the war front. He later completed his high-school education in 1989 and received a mathematics diploma.
His decision to participate in the war was significant because it reflected the experiences of a generation of young Iranians whose adolescence coincided with one of the most devastating conflicts in the country’s modern history. The Iran-Iraq War had a profound impact on Iranian society, and Hassan Khomeini’s participation connected his personal biography to that broader historical experience.
Beginning of Religious Education
After completing his secondary education, Hassan Khomeini began formal seminary studies in 1989. His transition from conventional schooling into religious education followed the traditional path of many Shiite scholars in Iran.
